Zen Stories
This text contains four Zen stories:
- One Note of Zen: A Zen master visits the emperor and preaches Zen by blowing a single note on his flute.
- Eating the Blame: A cook accidentally serves a snake in soup to his Zen master. The master eats the snake and takes the blame for the mistake.
- The Most Valuable Thing in the World: A student asks a Zen master what the most valuable thing in the world is. The master replies that it is the head of a dead cat.
- Learning to Be Silent: Four friends promise to meditate in silence for seven days. On the first night, one of them breaks the silence by asking a servant to fix the lamps.
