VI1 Certificates for Wine Exports to the EU
This document provides information on the VI1 certificate, which is required for wine exports to the European Union (EU). The VI1 certificate is a certificate of analysis that confirms that the wine complies with EU regulations.
Here are some of the key points about VI1 certificates:
- A VI1 certificate is required for all wine exports to the EU, except for consignments less than 100 litres, personal luggage of travellers, private individuals to another, private individuals moving house, trade fairs, scientific or technical purposes, consular establishments, and ship stores.
- A VI1 certificate can be issued by any NATA-accredited laboratory approved by AGWA.
- The analytical parameters required for VI1 analyses are total alcoholic strength, actual alcoholic strength, total dry extract, total acidity, volatile acidity, citric acidity, and sulphur dioxide.
- Bulk wine shipments are subject to loading and transportation specifications. The licensed exporter is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Procedure for the Preparation and Transportation of Bulk Wine are adhered to.
