The Buddhist View of Consciousness

The Buddhist view of consciousness differs from the Western view in that it sees consciousness as a continuous flow, rather than a series of discrete states. This is illustrated by the metaphor of the river, which is constantly changing but still retains its identity.

Another way to illustrate the Buddhist view of consciousness is with the metaphor of the flower. The perfume of a flower is present in all of its parts, just as consciousness is present in all of the different parts of the mind.
