Beer’s Law Calibration Curve for a Weak Acid
This document shows the Beer’s law calibration curve for a weak acid. The curve was generated by plotting the absorbance of the acid against its total concentration.
The figure shows two curves, one for each of the two different molar absorptivities of the acid. As expected, the absorbance is less for a solution where the molar absorptivity is 500 M-1 cm-1 than when it is 2000 M-1 cm-1.
The figure also shows that the regression line for the curve with the lower molar absorptivity deviates from the expected value of zero. This is evidence of a chemical limitation to Beer’s law.
