Arch of Constantine
The Arch of Constantine is a triumphal arch in Rome dedicated to the emperor Constantine the Great.
It was commissioned by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine’s victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312.
The arch is the largest surviving Roman triumphal arch, and it is a significant example of the ideological and stylistic changes Constantine’s reign brought to art and architecture.
Here are some of the notable features of the Arch of Constantine:
- Three arches
- Corinthian columns
- Sculptures incorporating elements from earlier Roman buildings
